Basic Scones
I love scones. They are a beautiful afternoon tea treat and I can never get enough of them. I was only introduced to these beautifully fluffy and tasty snacks when I first came to the UK and Jesse mentioned scones with clotted cream and jam to me. I didn’t even know what clotted cream was so he took me to a cafe, ordered some for me and I was sold in seconds. These basic scones are a super simple Thermomix recipe that you can prepare in minutes. There is no need for fancy ingredients and you can adapt this basic recipe to include raisins, chocolate chips, lemon or any other additions you like.
350 g plain flour
1 pinch salt
1 level Tbsp baking powder
85 g unsalted butter (in small pieces)
30 g caster sugar 175 g whole milk (or buttermilk )
10 g lemon juice
1 large egg (for glazing)
Preheat the oven to 220C / 200C Fan / Gas Mark 8. Line a large rectangular tray with greaseproof paper and set aside.
Place the flour, salt, baking powder, butter, caster sugar, milk and lemon juice in the mixing bowl. Combine 20 Sec. / Speed 6.
Transfer the mixture onto a lightly floured surface and roll out without working the dough too much to about 4cm thickness. Using a 5cm round cookie cutter dipped in flour to cut out the scones. Place each on the prepared tray.
